Helping others in need is a perfect way to give thanks for one's own blessings. Be involved in Give Thanks 2017, a joint effort of Midwest Food Bank and Home Sweet Home Ministries.
Give Thanks 2017 will be held Saturday, November 18, 12 - 4 p.m., and Monday, November 20, 2-6 p.m. On those days, volunteers will give away boxes filled with all the supplies for a complete Thanksgiving meal. Turkey, stuffing, cranberries, green beans and pumpkin pie will be among the items given. Last year more than 2,200 meals were distributed. Want to be help? There are lots of opportunities.
The main need is turkeys. Hy-Vee and Schnucks stores are participating in this effort. For every “Turkey Card” purchased at these locations, a turkey will be donated. Ask about it when shopping there. Monetary donations can be made by clicking here and selecting "Give Thanks" as your designation.
Volunteer opportunities abound, too. On Tuesday, November 14, and Thursday, November 16, food boxes will be packed. On the distribution days, volunteers will be needed to handle the traffic and distribute boxes. It’s a great way to be engaged in our community.
